Magnesium for Fatigue

Magnesium for Fatigue

Stress leads to a secretion of hormones (catecholamines and corticosteroids).

This leads to decreased levels of magnesium in the blood.

In addition, it has been shown in animals that magnesium deficiency increases the risk caused by stress, i.e. cardiovascular diseases (hypertension, tachycardia ...).

In practice, true magnesium deficiency is rare.

The cases we meet at the Pharmacy are due to magnesium deficiency.

Of course we should not administer it to everyone, but to people with symptoms due to stress, such as fatigue, nervousness, irritability.

- Contraindications: The only real downside is kidney failure which magnesium overdose can lead to, as well as diarrhoea.

- Dosage: The recommended dosage of magnesium is 300 to 400 mg per day for two months.

Magnesium, Vitamins and Medicines

The combination of vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) and magnesium is justified because pyridoxine increases magnesium levels in plasma and erythrocytes and reduces urinary magnesium excretion.

In addition, the conversion of pyridoxine into its active form requires the intervention of magnesium.
